- Mercury thermometer: This is a device that uses mercury as a liquid that expands or contracts when heated or cooled. It can be used to measure the temperature in the mouth, armpit, or rectum. It is accurate and inexpensive, but it may break easily and release toxic mercury. To use a mercury thermometer, you need to shake it down until the mercury level is below 35°C (95°F). Then you need to place it in the desired location for about three minutes. Then you can read the result by looking at the level of mercury in the glass tube and cleaning the thermometer with alcohol or soap and water.

- Alcohol thermometer: This is a device that uses alcohol as a liquid that changes color when heated or cooled. It can be used to measure the temperature in the mouth, armpit, or rectum. It is safe and simple, but it may not be very accurate or durable. To use an alcohol thermometer, you need to shake it down until the alcohol level is below 35°C (95°F). Then you need to place it in the desired location for about three minutes.
